&Another

  • &Another was conceived as a contemporary response to the resurgence of independent publishing, exploring how visual and editorial identity shape perception within a crowded media landscape. Produced in late 2018, the magazine positioned itself between cultural critique and creative showcase – a platform that both observed and contributed to the ongoing evolution of print.

Directionally, the magazine embraced contrast – pairing candid imagery with structured layouts to create rhythm and tension throughout. The resulting tone felt intelligent yet accessible, celebrating independent voices and ideas while maintaining a strong editorial backbone. Issue 1 featured contributions from leading creatives such as Maxine Leonard and Glenn Halbrooks, alongside essays examining the economics and cultural positioning of new print ventures.

  • The strategic aim for &Another was to capture a snapshot of independent publishing at a pivotal moment – to analyse, participate in, and ultimately define part of the dialogue around the medium’s revival. By drawing from existing industry trends while introducing its own editorial voice, the project established itself as both observer and contributor to a wider creative ecosystem.

From an editorial standpoint, the strategy prioritised diversity of perspective. Contributors were invited from across creative and commercial sectors, ensuring each piece reflected a different facet of the independent publishing landscape – from cultural criticism to market analysis. The result was a publication that served as both a design object and a contextual study: a record of an industry redefining itself through collaboration, experimentation, and independent thought.
